In Christ - prt 9

Col 2:11 IN WHOM also ye are CIRCUMCISED with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off THE BODY OF THE SINS of the flesh by THE CIRCUMCISION OF CHRIST:

How much power have the Believer in Christ over sin?

Oh if the Believer in Christ would understand the tremendous power he or she have over sin. Sin should no longer be an issue or a thing to struggle with for the Believer; if it still is, it is as a result of lack of knowledge or understanding.

Christ on the cross took upon Himself the sins of the world and by so doing He died.

He died spiritually first(separation from The Father), then He died physically second(separation of His Spirit from His physical body). Something to note however is that His spiritual and physical death is symbolic to the Believer.

The physical death of Christ was termed by the above text as "The Circumcision of Christ". The word Circumcision was translated from the Greek word "Peritome" which has roots from the word "Peritemno", meaning "To cut around".

This implies that in His physical death His flesh was circumcised(cut off or cut around) from His Spirit, and this flesh was termed from the same text above as "The Body of Sins". This by IDENTIFICATION means that, Humanity's sinful nature which Christ took upon Himself was cut off from Him on the cross, meaning that the One who accepts Christ have put off of his or her body the body of sin(sinful nature) and is now a totally new creature in Christ.

Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our OLD MAN is crucified WITH HIM, that THE BODY OF SIN might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

The old man in this passage was the dead spirit of the man or woman in Christ and the spirit of the man without Christ which for the Believer was dead in time past in sin and trespasses before he or she became born again(Col 2:13; Eph 2:1).

The former sin loving nature in the man or woman was circumcised together with the body of Christ; and as Christ picked up His Body again, this time a glorified one, so also is the man or woman in Christ(i.e, they that would receive Him as Lord and Savior) now a new creation. It is as if his or her former self never existed; consequently it never did in the Mind of the Father God.

Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; DEATH HATH NO MORE DOMINION OVER HIM.

10 For in that he died, HE DIED UNTO SIN ONCE: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

11 Likewise reckon ye[consider] also yourselves to be DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, but ALIVE UNTO GOD through JESUS CHRIST our Lord.

The Believer in Christ should always consider his or herself as dead indeed to sin. Sin has lost all it's power over you, for as Christ was cut off from His body so also the Believer in Christ have been cut off from his or her old sinful nature; you now have the very Love nature of the Father without trace of the old sinful nature or self.

You may ask, why are believers till tempted to commit sin? This temptation does not spring up from a sinful nature(this is not consistent with the believer from the bible), but from an un-renewed mind and/or from the desires of the flesh(body, or senses.)

The more the believer spend his time on the Word in any form, his mind will begin to be renewed according to his new nature and the fleshly desires of his body will become minimized to a point where what used to be a terrible temptation becomes very beatable. But watch this, the moment he or she slip back into the flesh, by this I mean, hanging with the wrong crowed, engaging in activities that gratifies the flesh above the spirit, or going back to former lifestyle or habits.

In the Mind of God sin is no longer an issue because, Christ Jesus dealt thoroughly with sin for ever. Sin has lost all it's power and influence over the one in Christ. The Christian is actually free from sin.

The man or woman in the world without Christ is dead in sin no matter how morally upright he or she may appear or act. You see, sin is not just an act, it is not just a disposition, it is also a state of being- a position, a nature. Man without Jesus is totally cut off from Life(Eternal Life of the Father), and as such, is a sinner whether he acts good or bad, and needs to be saved.

Rom 6:14 For SIN SHALL NOT HAVE DOMINION OVER YOU: for YE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, but UNDER GRACE.

The above text by implication declares that sin used to have dominion over the man; this however is still true for those still lost in the world, and also true for those holding on to the old covenant, which is the law. However, under Grace, sin can no longer exert itself over the Believer in Christ. The Believer have abundant Grace available to him or her to live above sin. He or she just need to be sensitive, aware and awake to their new nature, which is righteous,

1Corintians 15:34a:

34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not;

Where you blessed.

Confess This: I have every authority and power over sin not to fulfill it's lust and wrong desire.
